1. Hey! You said I'd get free shipping on an order of $99 or more, but your computer is charging me for shipping anyway. What's going on?

Human beings process all orders, and since we know what sales and special offers we are running, we adjust the invoices to reflect those specials before the order is processed. So, if we say you get free shipping, you get free shipping. No matter what our computer, HAL, says.

2. I want to sign up for your newsletter, but I don't want spam. How can I be sure you won't sell my name?

Well, our Privacy Policy states that we will never, ever, give your information to a third party. They could beg us: we'd laugh. They could threaten us: we would scoff in their general direction. They could offer us a million dollars: we'd okay, we'd think about it; we are human, you know. But in the end, what price honor? No, your information is safe.

3. What is your return policy?

We stand by the books we sell. So if there's a problem, first send us an email telling us what's wrong. If the book is not as we described it, we will ask that you return the book and we will refund the price you paid for the book and the return shipping.

4. How do you set your shipping charges?

The rates on this website are based on a 2-pound hardcover weight. However, the computer can't distinguish a hardcover from a paperback: it uses First Book and Each Additional Book to arrive at the total shipping charge. So, if your order consists of paperbacks only, it will calculate the hardcover rate.

We will adjust the rate to compensate for the lower weight and notify you of the proper charge. Your credit card is not charged until we process the order.

5. I had my eye on a book, but when I went back it was gone!

The books on this site are usually one-of-a-kind and when they're sold, they're gone. We suggest when you see the book you want, to order it then.

6. How do I know your books are good?

We have high standards: if we wouldn't be proud to have a book in our private collection, we won't list it. And that applies across the spectrum of our books, whether common titles or antiquarian rarities. Because no one wants ratty-looking books on their shelves, do they?

7. I live in Connecticut. Can I come to your store?

We'd be happy to see you! We are located at 6515 Main Street in Trumbull, Connecticut. Our store hours are Monday - Friday 4:30pm to 8:30pm; Saturday and Sunday 11:00am to 5:00pm. We're closed Wednesday and holidays. For directions, see the About Us page.

8. I've been looking for a book, but you don't have it. Can you find it for me?

Sure thing. Just fill out the off-line search form. We'll conduct a search of our uncatalogued inventory, other bookstores, and book search services, at no charge to you.

9. What in the world is a 'deckled edge'?

As is true with any trade or profession, book dealers have their own language. It makes perfect sense to us, but can be a bit confusing to other. The Glossary page takes some of the mystery out of a book listing. By the way, a 'deckled edge' is the untrimmed edge of a page; quite common when paper was handmade but now mostly seen in book club editions.
